Nicola Cattani was born on 3 October 1974 in Senigallia (An), Italy.

Son of two art history teachers, he was passionate about painting and figurative arts from an early age.

He began his artistic studies at an art high school focusing on advertising graphics and photography.
There he quickly developed his love for darkroom view photography and black and white printing.

After high school he studied photography at the ISIA (Higher Institute for Artistic Industries), a prestigious and historic Academy of Urbino.
During his university years he approached the language of cinema following various professional courses in Italy and abroad.
After graduating, he moved to Rome where he worked in the Cinecittà Digital Visual Effects department.
In Rome he began working as an assistant operator and for many years worked on advertising sets before starting his independent career as a director of photography working, also in the world of fashion and music videos.
